Orange Essential Oil to the Rescue for Preventing Colds & Flu

Orange oil has a fresh citrus smell and is considered a valuable treatment oil for many ailments. The oil is extracted from the fruit of the orange plant (Citrus sinensis) by the cold-press method and it is best to only use organic, cold-pressed oils to avoid chemical toxicity.

Orange Essential Oil Benefits:     Relieves anxiety and depression, reduces inflammation, eliminates sore throat, eases digestion, gets rid of cellulite, and helps improve skin conditions such as acne.

Common viral infections such as an upper respiratory infection can typically be detected by runny nose, cough, low-grade fever, sore throat, and difficulty sleeping. No antibiotics or anti-viral medications can hasten recovery from the cold.

Influenza is a viral illness that can cause many of the same symptoms but also is frequently accompanied by intense body aches and higher fever.

Viruses invade living, normal cells and use those cells to multiply and produce other viruses like themselves. This eventually kills the cells, which can make you sick.

Viral infections are hard to treat because viruses live inside your body’s cells. They are “protected” from medicines, which usually move through your bloodstream. Antibiotics do not work for viral infections. There are a few antiviral medicines available.

The present study was undertaken to determine if naturally-occurring plant oils with reported antioxidant activity could provide mechanisms through which upper respiratory protection might occur.

The researchers used a mixture of antioxidant oils (aloe, coconut, orange, peppermint and vitamin E) and administered the mixture by aerosol spray to each nostril on healthy human subjects to see if the oils could ward off bacterial and viral infections. Sure enough the test results proved that certain essential oils especially the orange oil could reduce nasal inflammation preventing upper respiratory infections. So, let’s go get some orange essential oil!
